The James Baldwin St. Paul de Vence Summer Internship

Les Amis de la Maison Baldwin is pleased to announce a six-week internship at in Saint-Paul de Vence, France beginning July 15 2018. The selected candidate will work in the welcome center, greeting guests and giving tours, performing administrative tasks and keeping the center vibrant and operational. This internship is open to a graduate or undergraduate student and offers room for creativity, initiatve and vision.

 

About Us

Les Amis de la Maison Baldwin is a nonprofit organization incorporated in France whose mission is to employ the arts and culture to remember and celebrate James Baldwin in Saint Paul de Vence.

 

Our primary project is the Saint Paul de Vence Writer in Residence Program, which awards monthlong residencies to emerging writers working in the Baldwin spirit. Our Welcome Center is open to greet some the 2 million tourists who visit to St. Paul every year, educating them about James Baldwin's life in the village.

 

 

Skills & Background:

  • Highly motivated and organized

  • Strong interest in James Baldwin's life & literature 

  • Proficiency in French a huge plus

  • Background in the arts desirable

  • Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills necessary

  • Friendly demeanor and passion for African American history, culture & literature

 

Dates of internship

July 15 to August 31, 2018 

 

Compensation: Room & Board

The intern will be offered a private bedroom on the 2nd floor of our welcome center (a house built in 1859 and formerly owned by Mlle Jeanne Faure, a dear friend of James Baldwin, who visited frequently). A budget to cover groceries is also included in the internship. Depending upon the success of our fundraising efforts over the summer, we may be able to offer compensation for travel costs.
